Night Creams Work with Sound Sleeps

Want to look pretty so there’s nothing like a full eight hours sleep to make you feel fabulous the next day.

To look attractive we daily apply ten different creams at ten different times but fails to get that radiant look which we want. It’s the Sleeping Beauty fantasy: apply a face cream before going to bed and wake up looking radiant and rested. The main enemy of fresh, radiant skin is simply poor sleep. According to research more than 60 per cent of women experience problematic sleep, which compromises the skin’s ability to repair itself, leading to fine lines, uneven skin tone and dull, dry, tired-looking skin. Getting enough of the right kind of sleep is also important, the skin repairs itself in slow-wave or deep sleep.

Our Skin can’t tell the time. That means we can wear a night cream during the day and a day cream at night. The basic purpose of any moisturizer is to protect the outer layer of the skin, making it soft and less likely to crack. This physical barrier helps prevent moisture from evaporating; a process that happens all the time. But this is not enough to look gorgeous and to have a healthy skin. There are so many things which we have to keep in mind when we are thinking of a healthy skin. In general, the less chemicals we put on our skin the better, so it’s best to avoid the ingredients we need during the day but not at night, such as those in sunscreens, while you’re sleeping.

The perfect time to use active ingredients such as retinol and vitamin C, which break down under UV light is sleeping time. Retinol also causes sun sensitivity, so it makes sense to use it when we’re not exposed to the sun. Retinol is one of the few ingredients that dermatologists agree can repair damage and stimulates collagen production. It’s the only thing that treats wrinkles we already have. However, during sleep, when our skin is not being influenced by sunlight, pollution and stress, is a good time for skin to repair itself. Just as we need sleep, our skin needs downtime to de-stress. So we can wear a good basic cream, day and night, and if our skin is oily, you probably don’t need to apply anything at night.

For sensitive skin, sleep can be a welcome respite and a chance to combat the tenderness that can be caused by make-up and sunscreens. Look for calming ingredients, such as oat extract and wheat germ, to reduce redness. While we sleep, blood flow to the skin increases, the pH level decreases and the protective barrier is weakened. These ingredients work best under these conditions. The dinner we eat in the night can also affect our skin while sleep. The primary source of lowered pH levels in the skin is caused by diet. At the cellular level, excess acidity (low pH) slows regeneration and prevents cells from protecting themselves against metabolic damage. This leads to a dull, ashy complexion and premature wrinkles. Night is also the best time to fade pigmentation caused by the sun or hormonal imbalances. Ingredients such as hydroquinone, kojic acid and licorice extract help to fade spots and freckles but make the skin more sensitive to the sun.

Those who have had a sneak peak of the film's rushes are raving about Sarah-Jane especially about her hot number Kaisi Sunao Mein Yeh Dastaan.



The former Miss India makes her Bollywood debut in the Excel Entertainment production. "It is a dream role for me.

There is nothing better I could have asked for," says Sarah who hosted the supermodel hunt show, Get Gorgeous.

"There's Abhishek as a co-star, Excel as producer and Abhinay as director. What more could I have asked for as a launchpad?" says the model-turned-actress.

Nervous and excited

The newbie auditioned for the role. "I was nervous as well as excited. But preferred to go step by step."

About her role she states, "I am seen in three different shades in the film. To portray all of them was a big challenge for me."

There is already a buzz in the industry about her sizzling dance track in the flick. She had to prepare for the song's shoot for over a month.

For someone whom dance spelt freestyle moves, this track required her to do jazz, salsa and merengue besides body lifts.

"The song has been choreographed by Vaibhavi Merchant and I was trained by her assistant.

The track has a burlesque theme and I had to get the steps right as a group of guys would keep lifting me throughout as part of the steps."

Extremely superstitious

Sarah is now waiting for Friday for the audience's reaction to the trailers.

The Game has just begun for her. She is also in talks for other projects but prefers not to talk about it before the film's release. "I am extremely superstitious about all this."

Female staff made to wear red bracelets during periods

A look at the "tyrannical" toilet rules in Norwegian companies found one boss asking his female staff to wear red bracelets during their periods.

A workers' union report claimed that businesses were becoming obsessed with lost productivity due to employees spending too much time answering the call of nature.

The report by the Parat union found 66 percent of managers made staff ask them for an electronic key card to gain access to the toilets so they could monitor breaks.

And toilets in one in three companies were placed under video-surveillance, while other firms made staff sign a toilet "visitors book".

"But the most extreme action was taken by one manager who made women having their period wear a red bracelet to justify more frequent trips to the loo," the Daily Mail quoted it as reporting.

"Women quite justifiably feel humiliated by being tagged in this way, so that all their colleagues are aware of this intimate detail of their private life," it stated.

The report, which did not name the firm imposing red bracelets on female staff, has now been passed on to Norway's chief consumer ombudsman Bjorn Erik Thon.

"These are extreme cases of workplace monitoring, but they are real. Toilet Codes relating to menstrual cycles are clear violations of privacy and is very insulting to the people concerned," he said.

"I hope and believe that this is not representative of the Norwegian working life in general.

"We receive many complaints about monitoring in the workplace, which is becoming a growing problem as it is so often being used for something other than what it was originally intended for.

"We will be carrying out a full review of the rules surrounding employment and privacy over the coming year," he added.
